From 1 July 2008 there are changed to the road rules in NSW.

There are some minor amendments to existing rules and there are also new rules which are attracted fines and/or demerit points. It is important to note that these changes are affected all road users.

A new Class-C Driving Test replacing the old DART has been introduced from December 3, 2007. Learner drivers have to sit a longer and more vigorous test with almost twice as much time on the road. The new test focuses on hazard perception and how novice drivers respond to these hazards.
On 1 July 2007 the NSW Government has introduced new road safety initiatives for 
novice licence holders to improve the safety of young drivers and riders on our roads.
As the holder of a Learner or Provisional licence, the enclosed brochure outlines the new measures and restrictions that has affected you from 1 July 2007 .    These include :
== P1 drivers and riders caught speeding must have their licences suspended for        at least three months.
== P1 drivers under the age of 25 must not drive with more than one passenger under the age of 21 between the hours of 11pm and 5am (the "peer passenger restriction").
== Learner and P1 licence holders must not use any mobile phone, including a mobile phone with a hands free device, while driving.
== All Learner, P1 and P2 drivers must display L and P plates on the exterior of their vehicles and the letter "L" or "P" on the plate must not be hidden.

==Learner drivers getting their licence on or after 1 July 2007 have need to hold their learner licence for a minimum of 12 months (if under 25 years of age) and complete at least 120 hours of supervised driving (including 20 hours of night driving) before they can apply for their P1 licence.
